Ontario is reporting 401 new cases of the novel coronavirus on Friday, bringing the provincial total to 46,077.

Friday’s case count is a significant jump from Thursday which saw 293 new cases and is the highest one-day increase since June 7.

According to Friday’s provincial report, 130 new cases were recorded in Toronto, 82 in Peel Region, 61 in Ottawa, 40 in York Region and 19 in Halton Region.

All other public health units in Ontario reported 15 or fewer cases.
67 per cent of Friday’s cases are people under the age of 40

10 more Western students were reported to have tested positive for the novel coronavirus today. This is following the 28 students who were reported yesterday. 
The Middlesex London Health Unit says that the cases come from multiple clusters, with almost all linked to partying in bars or restaurants or at house parties.

Nine of the cases reported Friday are linked to a second cluster all connected to a single house party. Others are connected to El Furniture Warehouse and the northwest London Walmart.


Three workers at a northwest London Walmart have tested positive for COVID-19 over the last two weeks, officials say.

The employees at the last worked at the store, located at 1280 Fanshawe Park Rd. W. in London’s Hyde Park neighbourhood, on Sept. 6, Sept. 13 and Sept. 15, Deep cleaning of the north-end store was recently completed and staff continue to follow steps to control the spread of the virus

In addition to the 10 cases involving western students, this raises the total of London’s reported cases to 13. 

Middlesex London Health Unit Medical Officer of Health Dr. Chris Mackie says, “This is the second wave and we are seeing substantial spread in the community.”

Today’s daytime high was 15 and the overnight low will hit below freeing. There is currently a frost warning in effect for the London area. A similar trend will continue for the weekend. Temperatures are expected to climb to the 20s next week with a small chance of showers in the middle of the week.
