INTRO:
Good morning this is your Radio Western NEWS, I’m Pam Haasen. This morning, 4 Western U professors are awarded recognition by the Distinguished University Professorship Award, long weekend closures are upon us, the Knights are out of the game, and London’s weather looks mighty cold.

In campus news:

Four professors are the latest recipients of Distinguished University Professorship (DUP) awards, joining a select group of faculty members recognized for exceptional scholarly careers. Honoured this year are Patrick Mahon (Visual Arts, Arts & Humanities), Jin Jiang (Electrical and Computer Engineering), Helene Berman (Nursing, Health Sciences) and Dale Laird (Anatomy & Cell Biology, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry).

The Distinguished University Professorship Award acknowledges sustained excellence in scholarship over a substantial career at Western. The award includes a citation, the right to use the title, an opportunity for a public lecture and a $10,000 prize to be used for scholarly activity at any time.

In other campus news:

The Western University College building  has been overlooking our campus from the top of UC Hill since 1922. After being closed for much needed renovations and updates for the past few years, we are excited to welcome these beautiful spaces back to our campus life very soon. You can check out Western University on facebook to see pictures of the updates and follow the progress!

In local news:

Wondering where you can go and spend time this long weekend?  While Good Friday is the actual statutory holiday, municipal, provincial and federal government offices and schools will also be closed Easter Monday.

Mail will not be delivered between Friday and Monday, but will resume Tuesday.

Most grocery stores, banks, the LCBO, Beer Stores and the Labatt Store are closed Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

Malls, including White Oaks Mall, Masonville Place and Westmount Shopping Centre, will also be closed on those days.

If you do need to get any shopping done, malls, grocery stores, the LCBO and Beer Stores are open Saturday.

All London Public Library branches will be closed Friday, Sunday and Monday.

The LTC is running Friday, but on a Sunday schedule.

In sports:

With the Attack killing a penalty, a puck was flipped high in the air by Nick Suzuki and Kevin Hancock caught up to it and went in on a breakaway. He moved across the crease and then lifted a wrist shot inside the goal post to open the scoring.

Hancock scored his second goal on a power play at 15:19 of the second period to put Owen Sound ahead 2-0, ending the Knights season with a 2-1 win last night at Budweiser Gardens.

And in weather:

Today is expected to remain cloudy with a high of 4 and a low of -2 degrees.

Tomorrow, expect gusty winds and scattered rain throughout the day with a high of 7 and a low of -4 degrees.

Easter Sunday we should see some sunshine, but with a chilly temperature of a high of 2 degrees and a low of -5.

And on Monday, we should see quite a bit of sun, with some afternoon cloudiness and a high of 5 degrees and a low of -1.
