-Brescia University College has appointed London native Dr. Lauretta Frederking as its new Vice-Principal and Academic Dean

-Currently serving as Associate Provost at the University of Portland, Dr. Frederking admitted her new position at Brescia on Canada Day

-London’s annual Sunfest festival is kicking off starting today in its traditional spot at Victoria Park

-It’s in its 24th year running and is in its peak of popularity as it is one of London’s most recognizable and popular festivals of the year

-Furthermore, its an attraction spot to not only local people, but internationally as well

-This year it is hosting 35 different music ensembles from all over the world, from Mali, Chile, and South Korea, to Sweden and Colombia, just to name a few

-Its popularity derives from its exquisite international cuisines and arts, as well as the experience its provides through the enjoyment of different cultures’ food, and music

-Sunfest is running starting today July 5th, up until Sunday, July 8th

-It is a free event, so come on out to experience the local festival that provides an authentic world of different cultures just around the corner



-London’s city council elections are coming up this fall, and people are running out of time to file nomination papers to run for council

-There is a concern that fewer people are eager to come forward and register to run for city council positions

-So far, there are only 31 people running for 14 seats, compared to the 72 people running in 2014

-Furthermore, only 11 filed to run for mayor, in contrast to the 15 that ran in 2014



-Two London NHL players have just received major contract extensions
-Logan Couture agreed to a $64 million, eight-year contract extension with the San Jose Sharks on Saturday
-Couture ranks amongst the top 10 in the NHL in playoff goals and points with 34 goals and 47 assists in 96 playoff games played

-He had a highlight year with 37 goals and 47 assists this season

-Defenceman Drew Doughty has also agreed to an eight-year, $88 million contract extension through the 2026-27 season to stay with the Los Angeles Kings

-Doughty has been among the NHL’s top defencemen throughout a 10-year career spent entirely with the Kings

-With 10 goals and 50 assists this season Doughty led the Kings into the first round of the playoffs versus the Vegas Golden Knights
-The 28-year-old’s new contract has the NHL’s highest average annual value among defencemen
