Western Mustangs Take down the Queen’s Gaels
On Friday January 10, 2020 the Western Mustangs Women’s hockey team took on the Queen’s Gaels. The girls fought hard in the first and second period and were neck and neck at a score of 0-0 heading into the third.
With outstanding plays from Captain April Clark #87 and Sydnee Baker #67, and magnificent saves by goalie Tareya Webster #94, the team was led into victory. Two minutes into the third period, Sydnee Baker scored a goal that was assisted by teammates Sarah Irwin #44 and Sam Wood #10. Queen’s came back fighting hard into the third but could not get one past goalie Tareya Webster. April Clark then managed to score with three minutes remaining into the period, with help from Sydnee Baker. Queen’s’ team then pulled goalie Kathryn Jalink #29 which led Sydnee Baker to her second goal and her third assist of the game with only one minute left in the third period. Tareya Webster concluded the game with a shutout and an amazing 29 saves.
Head coach Candice Moxley is content with the team’s performance as she had stated that her goal for 2020 is for the team to play consistently well for a full 60 minutes each game. Today, the girls did just that. If the team continues to play this way, this will be just one of the many wins this season. The girls will play next Saturday January 11, 2020 at home in Thompson Arena against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks and they are hoping to keep the momentum going. Go Mustangs!
